American Legion Post 911

“Serving the next Generation of Heroes”

Upon returning home from combat tours, we found a void existed in the world’s largest veteran’s service organization -The American Legion. There was not a single nationally chartered post dedicated to Veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. OEF and OIF encompass Military Operations not only in Afghanistan and Iraq respectively, but as well as sixty-three other countries to include, but not limited to, Africa and the Philippines.

The Founders of American Legion Post 911 are building this Post in order to fill the void that America’s Service Members are currently falling into. While there are many veteran organizations currently being founded, Post 911 is the only Veterans Organization being formed with the sanctioned backing of the American Legion. Chartered by The United States Congress in 1919, the American Legion’s rich history of service includes the GI Bill, strong influence on National Defense Policy, and full status for women in 1919, before they were legally allowed to vote according to the Constitution.

The values upheld by the American Legion are consistent with values held, and defended, by the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines serving today. American Legion Post 911 is dedicated to acknowledging the selfless service, sacrifice, and bravery of American Heroes answering the call of our generation. We are assisting these honored veterans in their return home by providing a conduit for social and economic benefits; and giving true meaning to their continued success by encouraging the same selfless service in our community at home they have already demonstrated to the country while serving.

On a social level, American Legion Post 911 offers Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines a place to maintain the fraternal camaraderie forged while in combat. We are reinventing the social atmosphere of the American Legion by offering to our members and supporters a wide selection of activities and programs. Post 911 continues to offer the long established Legion sponsored programs and activities, such as, family picnics, Legion Riders Motorcycle Club, and support for local youth groups. For the first time in American Legion history, however, we have created a new series of activities and programs tailored to the current interests of the new generation. The first of its’ kind Legion SCUBA, Skydiving, and Expedition Adventure League are now available to the new Generation of high adventure seekers. We are also dedicated to getting needed information to our members and sponsors faster and more effective than ever by reaching out to our returning Heroes via internet, print, blogs and radio media. American Legion Post 911 promotes existing VA, government sponsored and American Legion sponsored benefits to our returning service members. These benefits include but are not limited to medical, educational, vocational rehabilitation, and developmental programs such as Legion Baseball and Boy’s World.

Furthermore, American Legion Post 911, through the first of its’ kind Torch Bearer’s Society, offers what is expected to be a highly successful informal employment and mentoring network, placing America’s Next Greatest Generation in employment opportunities that offer sustained growth in civilian employment.

American Legion Post 911 understands that success is measured by how we help others, and our members are currently working in outreach programs with the Boy Scouts of America, to include sponsoring the Golden Gate Council in San Francisco with Unit Commissioners, and intend to expand this program to work with the Girl Scouts, as well as other youth development organizations. American Legion Post 911 adamantly refrains from judgment based on race, religion, creed or sex. We are strongly apolitical and non-denominational.

Now that we have returned home from these wars, it is our new mission to continue to serve our nation, communities, and fellow brothers and sisters in arms--as America's next Generation of Heroes.
